There are several ways to get enough fiber in your diet. The best, of course, is through your diet. This means more fruits and vegetables, and fewer fast foods and snack foods. The second is by using the ‘bulking’ fiber supplements that use the old standby, psyllium fiber. Psyllium fiber products such as Metamucil are effective, but many people don’t like the gritty texture. After all, these products are ground-up seeds with the tiny seeds attached. The third way is to use a product such as Benefiber, which has a nice texture and dissolves almost completely in water or fruit juice, and is much easier to take/swallow.

I’d suggest starting out slowly, adding a bit of Benefiber to your morning orange juice. Add a bit more every day or every other day, so you body can adjust to the increased bulk in your digestive tract.

Our bodies were made to operate on a high-fiber diet. Native plants did not come as fruit leather or in popsicles. They came as whole fruits, fiber, vitamins and minerals and all of the other healthful products of raw fruits and vegetables.

I do eat a healthy diet, but I still use added fiber. Why? The bulking makes me more regular, healthy, and I feel better. I believe it helps regulate fat and cholesterol in my body as well. It helps mimic the diets we humans evolved with on our planet.

Recommended. I use this product all of the time. I still occasionally use the psyllium fiber products as well, just not as often since I’ve discovered Benefiber.

I am dieting, seriously, and while I have no need for “regulation”, I am trying to increase my fiber intake without wasting too many calories on it. I also don’t want to be bothered with mixing powders, or chewing tablets. This seems to do the trick. I would guess that it will remain part of my diet. Just wish they came in larger quantity containers. When you are taking 4 to 6 a day, the bottle doesn’t last long. So far I’ve lost 25 pounds and have only 39 to go. And, importantly, I am staying healthy.

Benefiber is a fiber supplement that comes in powder form. It dissolves in beverages without affecting the taste of the beverage. Someone in my family used this product without any other modifications to diet or exercise, and a marked decrease in triglyceride and cholesterol levels resulted.

I’m a skeptic, but this product has made me a believer. Almost every product on the market today comes up short of everything it promises to do, but this one astounded me. It really IS tasteless, and it really DOES dissolve completely without any kind of gritty consistency.

I was so amazed by this, that I gave my friend the Fiber Challenge! I gave him two glasses of water, one regular and one with benefiber in it. They looked absolutely identical, and the look of confusion on his face as he was trying to taste which one was which was priceless. Eventually, he simply demanded that I tell him which one it was because he was truly baffled. Of course, after I told him, he was still confused. Lol

I put this in tea, water, sauces, oatmeal, cake mix, and basically anything else less viscous than peanut butter. The only thing I will say is do not put it in ice water, because it has trouble dissolving all the way. But even then it’s no big deal, because all you have to do is dissolve it in room temperature water first, then add ice! No problem.

I’m a post-op bariatric patient, and ever since I came home from the hospital I have had constipation problems…probably from the revised diet (had to reduce carbs and fibrous veggies).

Tried Metamucil…couldn’t stand the clumping and thickening

Tried stool softeners…little to no effect

But Benefiber worked…I’m a big guy, >400 lbs, so I take about 6 to 9 heaping teaspoons of it a day…any less and I’m back to where I was before. I agree with many of the reviewers here: the dosage info provided by the manufacturer is misleading to say the least, and the BIG jar (claiming 190 servings) barely lasts me a couple of weeks, but I don’t care…it works!

One word of advice during preparation: when mixing in liquids, pour the powder into the liquid, not the liquid into the powder. If you try pouring liquid on a large dose of the powder, you need to stir it immediately…if you don’t, the powder has a tendency to coagulate making it very hard to stir and dissolve.
