Helped set up diet to reduce cholesterol as I have 3 clogged arteries and cannot have bypass surgery

I’ve found that the “Dummies” books are 98% reading and 2% practical advice. I am a busy person and do not have the time to read all of the information regarding cholesterol and how the body handles too much of it. Yes, I did learn some things. The homemade tortilla chip recipe was good but the book neglected to say how long you can store these chips in your pantry. Some of the recipes were not well known and so the book has been sitting on the shelf in my kitchen instead of being used.

If you like cookbooks, this isn’t a bad one…if you are looking for information on foods to eat or not eat with high cholesterol, then this would work for you. The recipes seem easy enough to prepare, with easy to find ingredients, however, as a person who doesn’t like cookbooks, I don’t use it much. We bought it primarily for the information on what’s healthy and what isn’t, which this book really does provide. We have found that aspect of the book invaluable. For that reason, I give it 4 stars, as just knowing the right foods to buy, even if you don’t follow the recipes to the letter, has helped tremendously.

Maybe there needs to be 2 editions of this book. This one is more for the gourmet cook who likes to visit little food marts and try exotic recipes. I’m the type who doesn’t like to cook much and wants to get out of the grocery store in 15 minutes flat. I’m fine with microwaving frozen veggies or topping a potato with store-bought salsa, and I have to look up instructions when I want to make hard-boiled eggs. I just want a few quick, simple recipes that use everyday ingredients. The ones in this book are unappealing and annoying for me.

I am not a cook, nor am I a health nut. This book gives great insight and makes cooking more healthy very easy.
