As a consultant and a 40 year old single parent mother with limited time aspiring to better last years triathlon times I found this DVD just what I needed to improve my overall conditioning in a timely manner AT HOME!! The workouts were well suited to a beginner like me – last year I completed my first 2 triathlons. There are four workouts around 15 minutes each – core, upper body, lower body and the flexible warrior portion geared more for female triathletes. I found if I just pushed the menu button on my DVD player I could skip to the various workouts quickly and depending on how much time I have I can do my 1,2,3, or all 4 of the workouts. I didn’t need allot of fancy equipment to complete the workout. It was no nonsense and easy to follow – not allot of bouncing around or hard to follow moves, you can watch the DVD with or without music, and Troy’s instructions were very, very easy to follow. The only criticism I might have is that I would have liked just a little more information on good form while completing the exercises. Otherwise I loved the DVD and am planning to look for more from the Irongirl series or Troy Jacobson!!

I have several of the Spinervals cycling workout videos and they are must-haves for any cyclist, triathlete, or spinning fan. They’re quality productions and Coach Troy Jacobson is a terrific coach.
Then, there’s the Iron Girl workout. This is just bad – no way around it. As in all of the Spinervals videos, the first segment is a person-by-person introduction of the athletes in the video. Not bad with Spinervals because there are only 3-4 folks, the intro is one sentence for each, and it’s done while you’re on your bike warming up. Basically, it’s filler until the hard work gets going. In this one there are 7-8 women and they each get about a minute in front of the camera! This is before anything has started, so you just stand there looking at them. It’s a HUGE waste of time when you’re ready to work out. And, no – you can’t FFWD past it. It’s part of the opening segment.
Coach Troy is outstanding with cycling but awful with weight training (at least in front of a roomful of women.) He counts every rep from 1-20 from off-camera, so it’s just shouting numbers over the video of women doing an exercise. He doesn’t do the exercises himself so you have no idea what the correct from looks like. The ladies are smiling and attractive, but woefully out of sync and none of them use proper form anywhere – they don’t even do the moves the same way!
I’m going to return this one for something more motivational, easier to follow, and better choreographed. If you’re considering Spinervals, buy it – you won’t be disappointed in the least. They are great. These Iron Girl workouts are a bust.
