- Recommend: Take directly or mix drops in small amount of pure water or juice and drink. Uncle Val has all the calming herbs of Auntie ChamT with the added benefit of valerian root, which can be both calming and gently sedating. My Grandson has had trouble sleeping since he was born. All sorts of powerful medicines (one of which, Clonodine, had very bad effects on his blood pressure so I really wanted to get him off of that one ASAP) have been used with varying results. I am not a big fan of herbal products but after checking out every ingredient in this product to be sure that
1) it was safe for kids
2) that none of these ingredients would conflict with his Bi-Polar medications
I tried it out.
It works great. We give it to him 15 minutes before he has to be asleep and sure enough, he is sleeping like a baby in 15 minutes. He is 12 1/2 years old and before this we would have to fight and fight to get him to even lay down. I would walk past his room at 12 or 1 AM and he would still be awake. No more! Now he goes to sleep and stays asleep all night (unless he drinks too much water or milk before bedtime, then he will wake up to go to the bathroom and go right back to sleep).
One point, don’t believe the claim that the kids will love the taste. This stuff tastes bad and smells even worse, but when we ask him if he wants to skip a night he begs to have us give it to him because he likes the rest he is now getting. Now all they need to do is make it taste better and get rid of the smell and there will be nothing more to complain about. Also, the instructions say to give it three times a day. Forget that. It is not effective during the day for “calming”. Perhaps this is due to the Bi-Polar meds he takes but for bedtime it works super… three drops and he is fast asleep. We are on our second bottle now and I am about to order two more 2 ounce bottles right now, because I don’t want to run out.

I can’t say how well it works for infants or children but it worked great to calm a guinea pig who was scratching her own skin until it bled, after a bout of mites. The mites were totally healed up after injections from the vet, but she had developed a habit of scratching until her skin bled. I started giving her this (at a dose appropriate to a 3-pound mammal) and it calmed her down until she got out of the habit of scratching and everything healed up. It didn’t make her sleepy or drugged, just very mellow.
She liked the taste of it, too, and readily drank it down out of the little dropper.
I know this is an odd review but if it works on cavies, it will probably work on other animals that need a bit of calming and it has no alcohol, chemicals or anything harmful in it, so I decided to share this experience. I have two-and-a half bottles of it at home now, because with the FIVE guinea pigs and two cats, someone will need it eventually!

I have been using this for my daughter since she was about 2 (she is 4 1/2 now). It works wonders when she is over stimulated, super upset, had a nightmare, etc. She likes the taste and smell and it has a very soothing effect on her. Does not work on all kids, but does the trick for her. I have been spending $15 and up for a 1 oz bottle, so this is a great price.

This doesn’t have the same effect on kids as the regular Valerian has on adults. My daughter is 21 months old and it barely did anything to her the first time she took it, and the second time and there after it didn’t do anything.

We’ve been using Valerian Super Calm on my two year old high needs daughter for five days now. She’s gone from needing an hour and a half to fall asleep to dropping off in less than half an hour with less night waking. She’s sleeping longer and seems more rested in the morning. Truly a lifesaver- nothing else was helping, and I’m so happy we found a natural and safe solution for her issue.
